What is The Illuminator LED Grow Light?
When the Original Illuminator Tri-Band grow light was introduced a few years ago, it was a true innovation in an already progressive industry. By introducing light from multiple red and blue wavelengths, this LED grow light allowed users to enjoy thicker, richer vegetative growth and powerful bloom cycles not seen before with a standard LED grow light.
How is the 5-Band, Tri-Spectrum Illuminator better?
Now they have upped the ante with the introduction of the 5-Band Illuminator Grow Light - visit their site here. Featuring proprietary technology, the 5 Band Illuminator LED grow light emits light in finely tuned wavelengths of blue, red, and near-red.
Proprietary Technology? What does that mean?
It means you cannot find the same growth-inducing, bloom-exploding, and yield-boosting technology in ANY other LED grow light on the market. Don't get me wrong - there are many decent lights out there and even more cheap knock offs but they lack the research and development put into the Illuminator grow light to make it the industry standard.

How does light affect plant growth?
Here is a quick science lesson for you . . . why are leaves green? Very simply put, leaves are green because they absorb almost all other light except green/yellow, which is reflected back to our eyes and is what we see.
Red, blue, and near-red are the 3 wavelengths of light that are the most beneficial for plant growth. Light from the green and yellow portion of the spectrum provides very little to no benefit to the development of your plants because most of it is reflected back.
Therefore, it would make sense that you would not use light from the green and yellow spectrum in a grow light as it would just be wasted. The innovation in design of the Illuminator Grow Light is in the configuration of wavelengths the light employs that emit the most desirable spectra. By utilizing a new technology, the Illuminator effectively duplicates wavelengths of light that your plants just gobble up, resulting in increased yields and massive blooms not normally seen with indoor growing with LED grow lights.
Important Facts About The Illuminator 5-Band Tri-Spectrum Grow Light
Illuminator LED Grow Lights use a 5-Band spectrum of red, blue, and near-red which delivers more than 95% absorbable light to your plants. When compared to 15% efficiency typical with High Intensity Discharge Lighting, the results can be staggering.
Plants need different wavelengths of light at different stages of growth. To that end, the goal in developing the Illiminator Grow Light is to deliver optimum wavelengths required by your plants while giving support to all cycles of plant growth.
Illuminator LED Grow Lights are becoming as mainstream as Metal Halide & High Pressure Sodium
The controversy and debate about the benefits of LED grow lights is coming to a close - those that have stuck to their guns on standard HID grow lighting no longer have a leg to stand on. Don't take my word for it - just take a look at these testimonials :

Hello Laura -
Thanks for contacting me.
I have sent you an email with the details.
Thank you,

I need some direction. I have a ufo led grow light and half of the lights do not light up. It is strange, it is like drawing a line through the center; one half lit, the other half not.
I got it directly from China, and it worked at first. I can’t return and I can’t contact these pirates for help.
Has anyone else out there had this experience, and if so, what was the fix?
Thanks.

Hi Mathew,
Did you have 3 trib 90w ufo led? Red, blue, Yellow? Which red led do you use? 620-630nm or 660nm. Thanks
Toby
Hello -
These led grow lights are a tri-band, 5 spectrum LED grow light that covers 2 red, 2 blue, and one orange spectrum within the specs you are speaking of.
There is no yellow spectrum as, studies have shown, over 90% of the yellow spectrum is wasted light . . . i.e. not used in photosynthesis. If it is not used, then it is not really needed to get great blooms and growth.
You can find the light here:

Hi,
I’m planning a small grow room, the space is 2′ wide x 4′ long x 7′ high, which of the UFO systems would you recommend? Thanks for any help you can give me on this.
Hi Tom –
I would do at least a 2x90W set up. You could get away with a single 180w however the 2x90w will give better coverage at the edges. That being said, you indicate that your room height is 7 feet . . . do you plan on growing that high? If you are growing higher than 3-4 feet, I would go with 2 x 180w or 1x350w instead of the 2x90w to make up for the increased height.
Thanks!
Mathew
hI! I would like to grow tomatoes, maybe blueberries and strawberries under LED lights powered by solar panels – is that possible?
Carol
Yes, definitely possible. You just have to be sure your panels provide enough energy (watts) in order to power your grow lights (minimum of 90watts for this LED grow light).
Thanks,
Mathew
Hi,
I’m considering a 90w Illuminator Mother Keeper for a 2.5′ x 2.5′ area. I want to start seedling for outside. Also, looking to growing lettuce, spinach & non-blooming herbs. Should this light be a good fit for me?
Also, does anyone know if prosourceworldwide.com ever runs specials or coupons?
Thanks!
Hi Pepperstein –
A mother keeper light would NOT work well in this situation – it is only to keep already mature plants healthy. You would need a 90W LED grow light for this.
ProSource does run specials on occasion – usually when there is a back order they will knock the price down a bit. I haven’t seen any coupons yet but I suspect that will change in the future . . .
Thanks,
Mathew
I’ve seen 5 band tri spectrum lights advertised on chinese websites claiming they use american parts, for half the price…do you have any knowledge of these?
Sounds like a load of BS to me . . .
Look at it this way – lets just assume that they are actually American parts (like Cree & Bridgelux) and not just knockoffs of American parts. These parts come at a premium over Chinese made parts. So to think that they can get these parts over to China – paying taxes & customs – then actually manufacture the lights and offer them for half price is just absurd.
Most likely what you have is some level of scam going on.
Keep in mind – there are some great LED grow lights that are built using Chinese made parts. The difference is that well researched lights (and the parts of which they are made) will cost more over your everyday Ebay specials (99% junk).
Thanks Rick,
Mathew
That makes sense, anyway i have a 2ft by 4ft space its about 6ft high, would you suggest a 180watt light in that space? i’ll definately be buying one plus the flower accelerator, i’d also be interested in your thoughts on height of the light when plants are in vegetative state, i know the site says 12 to 24 inches….i’ll turn my plants to flowering when they are maybe 1ft high.
whoops, sorry, ignore my last post, i read back a bit and you’ve already answered it..sorry.
i may have misunderstood but it seems like your lights are primarily for flowering, but how do they perform for vegatative growth, im very interested in the efficiency and quality guarantee in your product . Thanks
also , some companies claim to use uv radiation as well , does your product use this ? what is the benefit if any?
Sean –
These lights are full-cycle grow lights – from seedling/clone to flowering. Vegetative growth on them has been quite spectacular – I have seen trees over 5 ft tall . . .
The lights come with a 90 day guarantee (return if not happy) and a 3 year warranty – so they stand behind the product.
Other companies put in UV diodes into their lights. There is conflicting evidence as to the benefit/detriment to your plants when using UV light. Evidence shows it increases potency – that is a fact, however, it is only by a very small amount (perceptible?) and it has also been proven to harm your plants at the same time. On top of that UV diodes are EXPENSIVE . . . so, there is really no benefit at this point in time to include them in these LED grow lights.
Thanks!
Mathew
I have a 1 meter x 1 meter x 2 meter (about 3.5 ft by 3.5 ft, and 6 ft tall) indoor grow tent. It is well made and is lined with highly reflective material. I want to grow 3 or 4 plants, and can only afford the 90 watt LED grow light. Will this be sufficient? Plants will be three ft. at the very tallest.
Hi David –
Yes, a single 90W LED can work well in this kind of setup. What you want to do is keep your 3-4 plants in a very small space – around a 2×2 or even less for a short grow like this. Then don’t spend a ton of time of vegging, switch to flowering earlier on and then extend flowering a bit longer. You should easily be able to yield good numbers.
Thanks,
Mathew
Hi I would like 2 set up either a 3×3 or 4×4 grow tent with the 3×3 would it b best 2 use 1 90w ufo and the flower acc. Or 2 90w ufo’s and no flower acc. Or 2 90w ufo’s and the flower acc. Or can I use 1 90w ufo 4 veg. and when it comes time 4 flowering can I add the 2nd ufo and use no flower acc. I am on a tight budget but also I wanna do things right the first time and also I would like 2 put the plants in soil how would u say is the best way 2 arange the plants and what pot size how many gallons each and how long of cycles should I do?? Thank 4 or any info u can give me ohh yea also would the 4×4 tent b ok with 2 90w ufo and 1 flower acc and still have good resoults?? Thanks again
Hey G –
Wow – you definitely have lots of options you lined out there . . . here is what I would do . . .
Keep your tent to a 3×3 – you can probably get a solid grow on 6-9 plants in there if you are keeping them on the shorter side anyways. You can start your plants in smaller pots then transplant them into 3 gallon pots .. . just arrange them in a grid that basically gives each plant a 1 square foot section of the grow space. I would go with at least 2 x 90W lights for your space . . . adding in a Flower Accelerator if your budget allows. Even better . . . I think if you can swing it, get a 357 Magnum . . . just one is all you need, no extra lights needed. This light can give you a killer grow . . . just check out this review and these results :

Thanks!
Mathew
I have been thinking of switching to LEDs due to heat and power issues
do you know anything about the 357 magnum?
or what is the best leds out there cant afford to take a burn on some cheap china leds that wont grow anything
any help would be helpful
GD
Green Dave –
The Magnum is a great light – check out my Magnum LED review on this site!

Hello Hydroman,
I am planning on growing 24 plants. The room will fit the 24 plants and height is not a problem as I plan on growing tall plants. I was planning on going with 6 1000 watt MH lights which are going to cost a pretty penny in addition to electric costs. Do you recommend those LED lights instead? And if yes, how many should I buy?
Thank you very much,
Sam
Sam –
That is a very big grow – 6000W presents all kinds of other issues besides electricity but of course you already know that. At this point in the LED game, there is no reason that I would buy HID lights and there are TONS of other professionals that agree.
Have you grown before or is this the first time out? Do you have production goals?
On the surface, it looks like you can veg them in a 4×6 space using 2-4 x 357 Magnums. Then you would add on lights and expand the space as needed for flowering. The number of lights you need for flowering depends on several factors but most of which is overall height you intend to reach and bushiness of the plant. I have seen setups of one Magnum per plant – growing a 6ft tall plant on their own . . . and I have seen some mid-range grows of around 4 ft tall and 2-3 plants per light.
If you are looking for quantity of lights . . . hit the Contact link and shoot me an email and we can work something out.
Thanks!
Mathew
have been researching every led on the market, tryin to find the best full cycle light for a 2ft by 3ft mylar lined closet, debatin between penatrator pro or 357 magnum? is the 357 rated from seed to finish? if i got the 357 should i add more blue lights during veg?
Jman –
Either the Penetrator or the Magnum can take you from seedling to finish with NO additional lighting needed.
Thanks!
Mathew
Hi ya m8 could you please tell me is there a company in the uk that sells Illuminators. I have purchased 4 90watt prakasa ufo’s from growlights.co.uk and not sure if its all bs and been ripped off. thanks
SmileyAntzz –
You can pick up the Illuminators here and they ship to the UK no problem! Not sure on the Prakasa’s myself as I have not yet tested one but I don’t think I would recommend them based on specs alone.
Good luck!
Mathew
Mathew,
I am using 1 1000 watt in flowering room and 1 1000watt in veg room how many of your lights will i need to purchase
Thanks,
Shawn
Shawn –
I do not own or sell any of these lights . . . this is just a review site of the lights. Which lights were you interested in and I can give you some more specific information.
Thanks,
Mathew
I am looking for a light to cover a room that is 2ft x 2ft on a budget could you help.
I have two of the 90 watt ufo from ebay and want to test them to see if they are anygood but how would i test them?
Rich –
A solid budget 90W is the Illuminator . . .
Not sure what you mean by how would you test them though . . . I would just do a side by side grow and pick a winner:)
Mathew
would this light do for say 5 to six plants in this 2ft x 2ft on its own
Rich –
This light can do pretty well for that type of grow . . . just keep the height to about 2 ft and you will be OK.
Thanks,
Mathew
hi my friend i recently bought a 120 watt prakasa for a 2 by 4 ft space
could i ask have you heard of these i was looking at growing 3 may be 4 plants will this light be up to the job
im veg 2 at present and they seem to be doing ok would be thank full of any feed back many thanks kev
Kev –
I get mixed reviews on the Prakasa . . . some like them, some don’t, though I have never tested one. The 120W would not work well in a 2×4 . . . 2×2 at most for flowering and you could fit all 4 in that space.
Cheers.
Mathew
I have a 2’7″ x 2’7″ x 5’11″ tent, Mylar coated of course. I ordered a single 90 watt UFO from ProSource to start with. I eventually plan to have four of these LED grow lights in this tent. Would that provide the same depth penetration as their 180′s? I don’t think you can overkill light on a mature plant, but what do you think about 4×90 in a tent that size? I can always turn two of them off for seedlings and veg and raise the height on them so younger plants are okay as well.
DrWho –
Interesting setup you have there!
Penetration depth would be similar and having the extra power of several 90W in a small space will net some really dense bud. You do have to be careful with this much light – even on a mature plant because you can saturate the plant by exceeding its ability to process the light via photosynthesis.
Cheers!
Mathew
Yeah, I’ve considered this and may just install 3×90 alongside the main cross-member bar of the tent, which would provide 270 watts which may be a better balance between depth penetration and not overdoing it.
I can definitely tell more than one 90 watt would be good right now. I installed my first one today and the temp drop alone has me feeling great (10 degree drop and dropping!).
I went with 3×90 with one being a flower accelerator. So 270 watts, with 90 of it being specific to flowering only.
)
That should be okay for that space tent. I’m loving the reduced heat. To me that was the primary reason to switch from HID. All of the other benefits are extras. ^-^
Dr Who –
Should look great! Check out http://www.LEDGrowLightForum.com and sign up . . . you can post your grow if you like,
Cheers!
Mathew
Hello HydroMan, I have a grow tent of 6′x6′x6′ what would you recommend for LED’s and how many would I need to get complete coverage of this area.
Hutch –
How tall will your finished plants be?
Mathew
Hydroman,
Know of any coupons for Prosource? You can add a coupon code at checkout…
Thanks again!
SenorFrisk –
Nope – sure don’t! Sorry,
Mathew
Hydroman,
Currently I am in a 2×2 grow tent running 2 x 150 hps lights in top fed coco . I have been checking out the UFO lamps and am very interested in the 90watt and the 180 watt. currently the hps is giving me major heat issues. I was thinking 2 x 90 side by side or 1 x 180watt. Would it make a difference in coverage with the small area I am working with. Also what is the max wattage you would use in a space as small as mine? I am open to other options. I want to push it to the limit of what my space can handle. What is your recommendation?
Thanks in advance
